Coloured Concrete Solutions

Oxide pigments that deliver rich, permanent colour from surface to core.

Vibrant, Fade-Resistant Colour Built Into the Mix

Coloured concrete allows architects, builders and homeowners to move beyond standard grey and create surfaces that complement the surrounding landscape, architecture and personal style. Reocrete produces integrally coloured concrete by blending iron-oxide pigments directly into the mix at the batch plant. Because the colour permeates the entire cross-section of the slab, it will not peel, flake or wear away — even under heavy foot or vehicle traffic.

Integral colouring is the most reliable method for achieving consistent, long-lasting hues in exterior flatwork. Unlike surface-applied colour hardeners or acid stains, which only affect the top few millimetres, integral oxide delivers uniform colour throughout the full depth of the pour. If the surface is ever ground, cut or chipped, the colour underneath remains identical to the surface, keeping your concrete looking fresh for the life of the slab.

Integral vs Surface Colour

There are two broad approaches to colouring concrete, and each has its place:

  • Integral colour — oxide pigment is metered into the mixer during batching. The result is through-body colour that cannot delaminate. This is the preferred method for driveways, paths and pool surrounds where surface abrasion is inevitable.
  • Surface colour (colour hardener) — a dry-shake pigment and hardener blend is broadcast onto the freshly placed surface, then floated in. It produces a denser, harder wearing surface layer with more vivid colour but is limited to the top 3–4 mm. This technique is commonly used for stamped and stencilled decorative work.

Cossacred supplies both integral oxide mixes and colour-hardener products, so your concreter can choose the right system for the job.

Popular Colour Ranges

Our standard palette includes over 30 shades organised into four families:

  • Earth Tones — sandstone buff, desert tan, outback ochre and warm terracotta. These natural hues suit Queenslander homes, rendered facades and bush settings.
  • Reds — from soft salmon through to deep brick red and burgundy. Red oxides pair well with clay-brick homes and heritage-style landscaping.
  • Greys — silver ash, pewter, graphite and near-black charcoal. Grey tones create a sleek, contemporary aesthetic and coordinate with metal cladding and glass.
  • Custom blends — we can combine multiple pigments to match a specific Pantone or Dulux reference for architectural projects requiring exact colour control.

Applications

Coloured concrete is used across a huge variety of residential and commercial settings:

  • Driveways — add instant kerb appeal with a colour that complements your home's roof, cladding and landscaping.
  • Patios and alfresco areas — create a seamless flow from indoor tiled areas to outdoor entertaining spaces.
  • Footpaths and shared paths — council and body-corporate projects often specify coloured concrete for visual wayfinding and aesthetic integration.
  • Commercial forecourts — branded colour schemes for retail centres, car parks and hospitality venues.

Durability and UV Stability

Iron-oxide pigments are among the most UV-stable colourants available. They resist fading under Queensland's intense sunlight far better than organic dyes or surface coatings. Over decades of exposure, the colour may develop a subtle patina that many homeowners find attractive, but it will not bleach out or turn chalky.

To maintain peak vibrancy, we recommend sealing coloured concrete with a quality acrylic or polyurethane sealer shortly after curing, then resealing every three to five years. A sealed surface also resists oil, grease and tyre marks, keeping your driveway or patio looking pristine with minimal effort.

Ordering Coloured Concrete

When you request a quote, let our team know the intended colour, the total volume in cubic metres and the placement method (direct chute, pump or wheelbarrow). We will confirm pigment dosage rates and supply a small sample disc so you can verify the shade against your existing materials before committing to the full order. Turnaround on standard colours is typically next-business-day; custom blends may require two to three days' lead time.
