Reinforcing Steel & Rebar

Rebar, mesh and accessories for structurally sound concrete — delivered with your order.

Structural Reinforcement You Can Count On

Concrete is exceptionally strong in compression, but it needs steel reinforcement to resist tensile and flexural forces. Reocrete supplies a comprehensive range of reinforcing steel products through Cossacred, making it easy for builders and concreters across South East Queensland to order their rebar, mesh and accessories at the same time as their concrete. One call, one delivery, one less trade to coordinate on pour day.

All our reinforcing steel complies with Australian Standard AS/NZS 4671, and every shipment is accompanied by a mill certificate confirming the steel grade, yield strength and batch traceability. Whether you are reinforcing a simple residential slab or a complex multi-level foundation system, you can trust that the steel arriving on your site meets the engineer's specification.

Deformed Bar (Rebar)

Deformed reinforcing bar — commonly called rebar — is the backbone of structural concrete. The raised ribs along the bar surface create a mechanical bond with the surrounding concrete, preventing slippage and ensuring load transfer. We stock the following standard sizes:

  • N10 (10 mm) — used for lightly loaded slabs, residential footings, fitments and ligatures.
  • N12 (12 mm) — the most common bar in residential construction, specified for house slabs, strip footings and retaining walls up to 1 metre.
  • N16 (16 mm) — used in heavily loaded residential footings, commercial slabs and suspended beams.
  • N20 (20 mm) — specified for commercial columns, deep beams, bridge decks and large retaining structures.
  • N24, N28, N32, N36 — heavy-duty bars for civil and infrastructure projects. Available on order with short lead times.

Rebar is supplied in standard 6-metre and 12-metre lengths. We can also arrange pre-cut and pre-bent bar to your engineer's schedule, reducing on-site labour and waste.

Steel Mesh

Welded wire mesh (fabric) is the fastest way to reinforce large flat areas such as driveways, warehouse floors and raft slabs. Standard sheets measure 6.0 m x 2.4 m and are available in the following common grades:

  • SL62 — light-duty mesh for residential paths, patios and lightly loaded garage slabs.
  • SL72 — the standard residential slab mesh, suitable for house slabs and driveways.
  • SL82 — heavier mesh for commercial slabs, hardstands and areas subject to heavy vehicle loads.
  • SL92 and SL102 — heavy-duty mesh for industrial floors, loading docks and civil infrastructure.

Trench Mesh

Trench mesh is a narrow, pre-fabricated reinforcement designed specifically for strip footings and trenches. It is available in three standard widths — 200 mm, 300 mm and 400 mm — and in lengths of 6 metres. Trench mesh eliminates the need to cut and tie individual bars in footing trenches, saving significant time on residential sites where strip footings are the norm.

Bar Chairs & Accessories

Proper cover and positioning are just as important as the steel itself. We supply a full range of accessories to keep your reinforcement in the correct location during the pour:

  • Plastic bar chairs — available in heights from 20 mm to 75 mm to achieve the specified concrete cover.
  • Steel bar chairs — heavy-duty supports for commercial and civil applications where higher loads are imposed during placement.
  • Ligatures (tie wire) — 1.6 mm black-annealed tie wire in pre-cut lengths or coils for securing bar intersections.
  • Spacer wheels — clip-on plastic wheels that maintain cover on vertical reinforcement in walls and columns.
  • Continuity bars and couplers — for lap-free connections in post-tensioned and precast applications.

Reinforcement for Common Applications

Different concrete elements have different reinforcement requirements. Here is a general guide:

  • House slabs — SL72 mesh on bar chairs at 40 mm cover, with N12 trimmers around penetrations and slab edges.
  • Driveways — SL72 or SL82 mesh depending on expected vehicle loads, with N12 edge bars.
  • Strip footings — trench mesh (L8TM or L11TM) with N12 top and bottom bars as specified by the engineer.
  • Retaining walls — N12 or N16 vertical and horizontal bars at engineered centres, with ligatures at every intersection.
  • Suspended slabs — N12 or N16 bars in both directions, top and bottom, with additional bars over supports to resist hogging moments.

Ordering Steel with Your Concrete

When you place a concrete order through Cossacred, simply add your steel requirements to the same quote. We will schedule the steel delivery ahead of your pour date so your team has time to place and tie the reinforcement before the trucks arrive. This single-supplier approach simplifies invoicing, reduces the number of deliveries to site and ensures everything is on hand when you need it.
